Indulge in Disney Magic: The Authentic Artist Point Berry Cobbler Recipe from Wilderness Lodge
We are absolutely thrilled to share a cherished recipe from the heart of Walt Disney World – the famous Artist Point Berry Cobbler! This delightful dessert comes straight from the esteemed Disney Food Blog, courtesy of our wonderful guest contributor, AJ. She not only took the time to meticulously prepare this iconic cobbler but also provided her invaluable insights and review, making this a truly special feature for all our baking enthusiasts.
From the Kitchen of AJ: A Home Baker’s Delight
AJ herself, with a charming self-description as an “amateur baker at best” (and occasionally responsible for a “burny-smelling kitchen”), was genuinely delighted with the outcome of this particular cobbler. Her experience highlights just how approachable and rewarding this recipe is, even for those who might not consider themselves expert pastry chefs. We’re especially grateful that she chose to share her culinary adventure with us as part of our ongoing “things to do with blueberries” celebration here at Cookie Madness!
For those unfamiliar, Artist Point is a renowned signature dining experience located within Disney World’s magnificent Wilderness Lodge Resort. As a “signature” restaurant, it offers a more upscale and memorable meal, reflected in its pricing and exceptional quality. The culinary philosophy at Artist Point is deeply inspired by the bountiful ingredients and rustic charm of the United States’ Pacific Northwest regions. This means guests can expect to savor dishes featuring premium ingredients like Tillamook and Black Diamond Cheddar, hearty buffalo and venison, succulent salmon, and, of course, an abundance of fresh, vibrant berries.
Among its celebrated offerings, the Artist Point Berry Cobbler stands out as their most famous dessert. It’s a testament to the idea that simplicity, when executed perfectly, can yield extraordinary results. AJ notes that even she, with her self-proclaimed amateur status, found this recipe remarkably easy to master. The cobbler itself isn’t overwhelmingly sweet; its flavor profile is light and allows the natural tartness and sweetness of the berries to shine through. This characteristic is precisely why AJ highly recommends pairing it with a high-quality vanilla ice cream. The creamy, rich sweetness of the ice cream beautifully complements the cobbler’s nuanced berry flavors, creating a harmonious and truly satisfying dessert experience where each component can be distinctly appreciated.
Furthermore, AJ observed that the cobbler puffs up beautifully during baking, forming a wonderfully crusted top. She offers a fantastic tip for elevating both its appearance and texture: consider sprinkling larger sugar crystals midway through the baking process. These larger crystals would not only add a delightful textural crunch but also provide a subtle punch of extra sweetness and a glittering, appealing finish to the golden-brown crust.
The Recipe’s Origin: From “Cooking With Mickey” to Your Kitchen
This authentic recipe is sourced from the delightful cookbook, Cooking With Mickey and the Disney Chefs by Pam Brandon, originally published in 2004. While the recipe itself is straightforward, AJ encountered a couple of minor adjustments that astute home bakers should keep in mind, primarily concerning baking time and temperature. In her experience, the cobbler required a slightly higher oven temperature of 370°F (188°C) to bake thoroughly, compared to the initially listed 350°F (175°C). Additionally, the baking duration extended to approximately 35 minutes, rather than the 20-25 minutes suggested in the original recipe. These minor tweaks are common when adapting professional recipes for home ovens, as oven calibration and pan types can vary significantly. It’s always a good practice to monitor your baked goods closely and adjust baking times as needed until they achieve that perfect golden-brown hue and doneness.
We extend our warmest thanks to Anna from Cookie Madness for providing AJ with the opportunity to practice her baking skills and showcase this wonderful Disney-inspired creation right here on the blog! When AJ isn’t experimenting with delicious recipes, you can typically find her diligently covering the latest news, in-depth reviews, and essential information about all things food across Disney’s magical parks and resorts over at the Disney Food Blog. Her expertise in Disney culinary experiences is truly unparalleled, and we’re so glad she shared a piece of that magic with us.
Why Cobblers are a Home Baker’s Favorite
Cobblers, with their rustic charm and comforting appeal, are a fantastic choice for home bakers. Unlike pies, they don’t require intricate crust work, making them much simpler to assemble. The beauty of a cobbler lies in its informal, dolloped biscuit-like topping that bakes over a luscious fruit filling. This creates a delightful contrast of textures – a soft, tender fruit base crowned with a slightly crisp, golden crust. They are particularly wonderful for showcasing seasonal fruits, like the berries in this Artist Point recipe, making them a perfect dessert for family gatherings, potlucks, or a cozy evening treat. The forgiving nature of a cobbler means that even if your kitchen isn’t perfectly immaculate or your baking skills are still developing, you can still achieve a wonderfully satisfying result.

Pin Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 4 oz cold butter (1 stick + 2 tablespoons), cut into small pieces
- 1 large egg
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 12 oz. fresh blueberries
- 2 tablespoons light brown sugar
- ½ pint each fresh raspberries and blackberries, for serving
- 8 fresh strawberries, for garnish
Instructions
-
In a medium-sized mixing bowl, combine the dry ingredients by whisking together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt until well blended. Next, incorporate the cold butter using a pastry blender, two knives in a scissor-like motion, or your fingertips, cutting it into the dry mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs. With a fork, gently stir in the large egg, mixing just enough to combine. Finally, add the heavy cream and mix just until it’s incorporated into the dough, taking care not to overmix, as this can lead to a tough cobbler.
-
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175°C). Lightly grease a 9-inch cake pan, then line the bottom with a round of wax paper. Grease the wax paper as well to ensure easy removal of the baked cobbler.
-
Evenly press the prepared dough into the bottom of the greased and lined cake pan, forming a uniform base. Generously scatter the fresh blueberries over the dough. Sprinkle the light brown sugar over the berries, followed by placing the remaining two tablespoons of cold butter pieces strategically over the fruit.
-
Bake the cobbler for approximately 20-25 minutes, or until the top is beautifully golden brown and the fruit filling is bubbly. (Note: As AJ discovered, you might need to increase the oven temperature to 370°F and bake for closer to 35 minutes, depending on your oven. Always check for doneness!) Once baked, allow the cobbler to cool slightly on a wire rack. Carefully remove the cobbler from the pan, cut it into delicious wedges, and serve warm with a generous side of fresh blackberries, raspberries, and strawberries for an extra burst of berry flavor. A scoop of high-quality vanilla ice cream is highly recommended for the ultimate experience!
